Natural Health is a well-established retail store in Cape Girardeau, MO selling a large variety of natural, organic, and special diet merchandise including foodstuffs and health products such as vitamins and supplements. They wish to be seen as a friendly and affordable store. Locally owned and operated, and offering locally grown food products, Natural Health maintains a strong commitment to both the community and the world environment.
Natural health doesn't have much of a logo. A sign on the front of their store states "Natural Health Organic Foods" with a sun-like glow behind the text. This image is not seen anywhere inside the store. I wanted to give this small business its own logo that could be used for signage, business cards, digitally, and more. My design visualizes Natural Health's environmental conciousness and the local farms they support and sell produce for, creating a simple, distinctive, and versatile mark.
For the logotype, I used a rounded Verdana (whose name comes from "verdant," which itself originates in the Latin for "green") for its familiarity and wide availability, making it cost effective now and in the long run. As a well established store that some have been shopping at for years, I did not want a loud logo that would seem blazenly foreign. I strove to create something that audiences would almost feel like they had known for a long time while still making it disinct and recognizable. The use of Verdana is not fashionable but rather unoffensive to patrons of a small store in a rural midwestern town.
